一般烤漆鋼鈑之烤漆層為不導電之一般聚酯系塗料或線性聚酯系塗料，經輥輪塗裝及高溫烘烤而成，此類烤漆鋼鈑被做為廠房及室內隔間用途時，經與空氣對流之磨擦或與人員走動時衣服之磨擦，就會產生靜電，因烤漆層不導電，靜電荷會被積存於烤漆鋼鈑表面，而造成電子機器之錯誤動作，半導體電子元件之靜電破壞、粉塵及細菌之吸附等危害；更甚者，若靜電積存過多時會因尖端放電而產生火花，造成可燃性氣體之爆炸，照相軟片之感光等破壞，其影響製程穩定及工作環境之安全不可謂不大。

抗靜電烤漆鋼鈑之抗靜電原理為在不導電之聚酯系烤漆中加入導電性材料，使烤漆層成為半導體，並配合鋼鈑之接地線安裝，可使烤漆鋼鈑保面因空氣對流及衣物磨擦而產生的靜電，得以導入大地而消失。
